Job Description Summary / TWC Summary
Under general supervision, provides academic advisement andconsultation to students regarding academic planning, progress,and/or problems.
Essential Duties Summary
- Reviews transcripts to ensure eligibility for admission to aspecific program and evaluates transfer credits and applicabilityto program requirements.
- Answers inquiries and resolves problems related to curriculumand course prerequisites for students.
- Advises and assists students with selection of a major field ofstudy, course selection, and class schedule. Monitor students atend of first year regarding standing in chosen program.
- Advises and assists students in the development of academicplans and class schedules to transition to specific undergraduateacademic department.
- Monitors student academic progress. Discuss academic andprobation problems and advises students of corrective action to improve academic performance. Analyzes and processes requests forreadmission from academic suspension. Completes academic monitoringpaperwork for probationary students. Analyzes and processesrequests for financial aid appeals.
- Identifies, communicates with, and monitors the academicactivities of students and program compliance. Completes academicaudit for junior level students in spring of year prior senioryear.
- Prepares, maintains and updates files to ensure coursework andother specific program requirements are met by students. Generatesrequired statistical reports to fulfill University and outsideagency requirements.
- Assists faculty, athletic coaches, and other counselingpersonnel by providing records, evaluations, and other requesteddata or information to process admission or graduation requests andto aid in resolution of academic problems.
- Assists students in overcoming educational and personalproblems, and study skills deficiencies. Refers students tocounselors, if necessary.
- May assist in formulating procedures and making decisionsinvolving the application of academic suspension regulations, asappropriate.
- Assists in the planning, development, and implementation oforientation programs for students. Assists assigned school/collegefaculty and staff and participates in activities designed to enhance academic and career success such as career fairs, seminars,special events, etc.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.

Hiring Range
$45,486.69 - $57,995.53
Education
A bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college oruniversity in the subject area of the advising assignment, or arelated field, is required. Relevant subject areas include highereducation and counseling. Related fields include biology,chemistry, computer science, engineering, environmental science,industrial technology, mathematics, physics, and transportationstudies.
Required Licensing/Certification
Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must have advanced interpersonal and excellent written andverbal communication skills. Must have excellent interpersonal andproblem-solving skills. Must have the ability to use MicrosoftOffice software such as MS Word and Excel. Must have the ability touse student databases such as Banner, Grades First, Degree Works,or similar.
- May supervise student workers.
- Work requires the direct application of a variety ofprocedures, policies and/or precedents.
Work Experience
- Experience in instructional development with background in theuses of new technologies for instruction.
- Experience in computer courseware design and instructionaltechnology.
- Ability to maintain the security or integrity of criticalinfrastructure, which may include communications systems, computernetworks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid,hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.
Working/Environmental Conditions
- Routine office environment.
- Sitting or standing in one location much of the time.
- Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects lightweight may berequired.
