Job description

Job Description

At the Keough School of Global Affairs, we believe that education should advance human dignity and empower the whole person. As an Academic Advisor, you won’t just manage course schedules - you will mentor, guide, and accompany undergraduate students through a transformative four-year journey. Joining a dedicated team led by the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and the Director of the Undergraduate Major, you will serve as the primary academic advisor for a dedicated cohort of up to 225 Global Affairs majors.

If you are a compassionate educator who thrives on helping students connect their academic passions to real-world impact, we want you on our team.

Why This Role Matters:

Unlike traditional advising models, Keough advisors guide students through their entire undergraduate experience - from matriculation to graduation. Because Keough is a single-major school, you will hold a holistic view of each student’s path, helping them integrate university core requirements, study abroad experiences, and specialized tracks into a cohesive, high-impact degree.

How You’ll Make an Impact:
  • Holistic Student Mentorship: Guide up to 225 primary majors through track selection, research opportunities, capstone pathways, study abroad experiences, and post-graduate planning.
  • Academic Navigation & Support: Help students construct balanced, meaningful curricula; navigate complex university policies; manage academic crises; and connect with key campus support networks.
  • Special Projects & Growth: Lead tailored initiatives aligned with your unique strengths—such as piloting innovative advising strategies, leading community-building events, or serving as a strategy lead for special populations (e.g., transfers, ASSA, TLP).
  • Campus & Community Connection: Partner with the broader Notre Dame Advising Network, participate in major university recruitment events (Welcome Weekend, Rally), and engage in national professional development through NACADA.
Our Advising Philosophy:

We lead with transparency, empathy, and accessibility, while empowering students to build independence and hold themselves accountable. We believe every student’s path is unique and deserves intentional, personalized support.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Education : Master’s degree or advanced certification beyond Bachelor’s.
  • Experience : 1 to 2 years
  • Skills: * Ability to guide a student in the process of developing, adapting, and pursuing a coherent curriculum of study through in-person academic advising meetings and to master the undergraduate curriculum and co-curricular opportunities. * Commitment to advancing the Dean’s priorities for undergraduate education. * Knowledge of and adherence to the requirements of FERPA. * Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. * Ability to master the relevant software and web-based applications and to manage a high volume of communication with students, faculty, and staff in a timely and professionally appropriate manner. * Ability to manage several complex administrative processes and responsibilities simultaneously. * Ability to establish and cultivate collaborative relationships within the School and across the University in support of undergraduate education. * Experience working with students and administering non-curricular, student-focused aspects of an academic program, particularly for international students from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Compensation: Up to $70,000, commensurate with experience
