Job summary

Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI seeks a relationship manager and academic advisor to support enrolled students from acceptance through program completion.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working in academic advising in higher education, telemarketing or other related experience.
  • Preferred Master's degree in business, education or in a related field of study.

Responsibilities

  • Provides ongoing academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Assists students with course selection, registration, waivers, withdrawals and other academic requests.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with students via phone, email, workshops, seminars, blogs and social media.
  • Answers questions professionally and collaboratively to resolve student concerns.
  • Builds relationships with staff, faculty and internal constituencies to resolve enrollment issues.
  • Offers guidance on time management, study skills, and career exploration.
  • Uses analytics to track progress and provides outreach to struggling students.
  • Reviews academic progress and retention against university goals, adjusting outreach accordingly.
  • Assists with retention strategies and identifies improvement opportunities.

Summary

Serves as a relationship manager and advisor for assigned students to deliver a positive learning experience; advises, provides academic counsel, and proactive support to students from acceptance and initial enrollment through program completion

Essential Job Functions
  • Provides ongoing academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students
  • Assists students with course selection and registration, course waivers, withdrawals and course drops, and other academic-related administrative requests
  • Establishes and maintains ongoing contact with students through a variety of communication methods, including telephone, email, workshops and seminars, blogs, and social media sites
  • Answers customer questions in a professional and courteous manner; employs a collaborative approach to problem-solving questions or concerns from students
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative and cooperative relationships with staff, faculty, and other internal constituencies to resolve student issues related to enrollment in programs
  • Builds relationships with students by providing guidance on time management, study skills, career exploration, and other areas of need
  • Uses analytics data to track student progress and outcomes in courses; provides proactive outreach to students who appear to be experiencing difficulties
  • Conducts ongoing reviews of assigned students' academic progress and records, monitoring retention of assigned students against the university's retention goals; implements outreach and communications accordingly
  • Assists with implementing, monitoring, and measuring retention strategies for students; identifies opportunities for improvement in providing students with a positive student experience
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Experience working in academic advising in higher education, telemarketing or other related experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in business, education or in a related field of study
  • Proficiency in Banner, DegreeWorks, and/or Starfish

Compensation: $48,000/annualized
