Salary : $ 42,355 to $54,651 annually. Compensation will becommensurate upon experience and qualifications.This position isExempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtimeprovisions.

Summary

Partnering with students to successfully navigate college is themission of Academic Advising at the University of Colorado ColoradoSprings. Academic advisors at UCCS accomplish this mission byproviding high-quality, personalized, and comprehensive advising todegree-seeking students from orientation through graduation.Advisors partner with students and the campus community to empowerstudents to take ownership of their education and be successful incollege. Advisors support and challenge students in their learningand development by:

  • Providing practical and developmental guidance that respectseach student's individual path.
  • Facilitating student exploration and navigation of educationaland personal goals,
  • Developing strategies for student success in college andconnecting students to opportunities and resources available fortheir growth,
  • Helping students to develop self-authorship and personalresponsibility and to value higher education as they engage intheir educational journey.
Essential Functions

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but arenot limited to:

  • Provide proactive and developmental academic advising toundergraduate students by analyzing student's career and academicgoals, degree progress, deficiencies and test results, and byrecommending appropriate course of action or referrals.
  • Interpret and communicate accurate information about campuspolicies and degree requirements.
  • Support new student enrollment by providing intake appointmentsand packets for orientation, help students register for their firstsemester of classes, and provide follow-up and regularcommunication from orientation through the start of the firstsemester of classes.
  • Evaluate transfer credits from other colleges for applicationtoward undergraduate degree programs by determining how thetransfer courses equate to our requirements.
  • Work closely with academic and other departments whileproviding outstanding customer service.
  • Determine how to best facilitate the student's success anddevelopment and provide advising that improves overall studentretention.
  • Contribute to the success of the department and University byabiding by team norms, accomplishing tasks affecting other teammembers in a timely manner, work closely with team members increating presentations and advising resources, and representingAcademic Advising in a professional way at all times.
  • Appropriately document all contact with students, includingappointment notes, email, and phone conversations.
  • Actively participate in department initiatives for studentsuccess, early alert outreach, and intervention.
  • Collaborate with campus departments and partners such as CareerServices and Orientation to support student success.
  • Proactively manage a caseload of students by utilizingtechnology to identify students in need of advising support,communicating regularly with students, and connecting students tothe resources and opportunities to help them engage and findbelonging at UCCS.

Qualifications :
Education
  • Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accreditedcollege or university and at least one year of full-timeprofessional experience in advising college level students or otherwork in directly assisting students in supporting their educationaland developmental needs.
  • A master's degree, either completed or in progress, in highereducation or a related field of study OR two or more years offull-time professional-level higher education experience ispreferred.
Experience
  • Paraprofessional experience at the graduate level may becounted towards professional-level experience.
  • Ideal candidates will have direct academic advising experienceor experience in a closely related field such as orientation,student transitions, retention programs or academic support.
Special Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable.
