Job summary

St. Joseph's Villa is currently recruiting Counselor I roles to join the team at the Villa Education Center.

The Counselor I plays a key role in working under the supervision of the Director of Program Operations and in close collaboration with the classroom teacher and instructional assistant. This position supports students with a range of special needs by implementing individualized lesson plans and behavior strategies based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and other evidence-based teaching

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum age of 21.
• Experience working with students with special needs preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field is a plus.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Outlook; experience with data entry systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision and support to students at all times.
• Implement individualized education and behavior plans under the guidance of the classroom team.
• Assist with daily activities, including personal care such as feeding, toileting, hygiene, and use of feeding tubes if required.
• Document student behaviors, incidents, and progress as required.
• Use approved behavior management techniques to support students in crisis.
• Serve as a positive role model by modeling appropriate behavior, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Transport students to community activities as needed.
• Attend required trainings and team meetings to ensure ongoing professional development and compliance with program expectations.
• Collaborate in a team-based environment to support a positive and effective learning space.
• Support classroom needs by notifying teachers when materials or adjustments are necessary.
