Job summary

City of Rockford Public Service Departments, Police, Fire, 911 Center is seeking qualified 911 Telecommunicators to answer emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch personnel and equipment, and provide EMS instructions. This role requires the ability to work 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, and to operate under high-pressure conditions.

Applicants must be current employees of a Primary/Secondary PSAP/ECC or Dispatch Center, and pass background checks and drug screening.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
• Must be eighteen (18) years of age to apply.
• Past experience in high paced, stressful conditions is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Receives 911 calls for emergency and non-emergency situations via multiple systems.
• Dispatches emergency personnel and equipment per procedures.
• Provides Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) instructions by phone.
• Uses SOPs to dispatch police units; decides channels, priority, units.
• Maintains calm and communicates clearly under stress.
• Works 12-hour shifts, including weekends/holidays; on-call duties.
