Job summary

City of Austin is hiring a 911 Call Taker I to provide emergency communications support. You will operate 911 equipment, determine incident details, enter information into the CAD system, and route calls to the appropriate dispatcher in a fast-paced environment.

Starting wages are competitive with the City of Austin benefits, with training, CJIS background checks, and certifications required. The role includes shift work across 8/10/12-hour schedules.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
• Must obtain TCOLE certification within one year of employment.
• Must obtain TCIC/NCIC certification within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate 911 communications equipment to monitor and determine nature of requests.
• Determine location and agency involvement for each incident.
• Receive and handle calls, transfer to dispatcher as needed.
• Enter incident data into the CAD system accurately.
• Route non-emergency calls to appropriate personnel.
