Job Description:

General Description:

The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program's Program Director is responsible for the management and administration of the OTA program, including planning, evaluation, budgeting, selection of faculty and staff, maintenance of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) reporting and program compliance with current ACOTE standards, and commitment to strategies for professional development. The Program Director is a full-time core member of the NOVA OTA Program teaching faculty.

Duties and Tasks:

• Responsible for the program's compliance with all standards for ACOTE.
• Reviews, updates, and maintains the OTA department policies and procedures that ensure compliance with ACOTE and NOVA policies at a minimum on an annual basis.
• Assists the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator with all aspects of the fieldwork program.
• Initiates and maintain agreements with other colleges for articulation and/or collaborative experiences.
• Collaborates with other program directors, educators, and community partners to facilitate learning opportunities for students to enhance their ability to meet learning objectives which align with the program's curriculum design.
• Manages the admission process for students to the OTA program in collaboration with Student Services.
• Provides fieldwork supervision as needed.
• Orients students to general policies and procedures for the OTA program admission, progression, and graduation.
• Assesses the quality and relevance of all aspects of the OTA program considering student feedback, faculty evaluations, program evaluations, student learning objectives, and other pertinent information.
• Ensures that the students are meeting the program requirements to graduate.
• Collects and compiles data regarding OTA program outcomes and disseminates the information appropriately.
• Assists Academic Fieldwork Coordinator, faculty, and fieldwork sites, with any student performance issues, conflict(s), and other issues, in order to find resolution.
• Responsible for and coordinates accreditation activities regarding the OTA curriculum.
• Develops, revises, and teaches OTA program courses.
• Provides OTA program student advising.
• Holds required weekly student engagement hours.
• Attends divisional and College meetings.
• Participates in all other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy OR a master’s degree in another field and an undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy. Qualifying degrees must be awarded by a regionally accredited institution.
• National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) national certification. Certification must be active and is required as a condition for hire and for continued employment if hired.
• Active, unexpired Commonwealth of Virginia licensure as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant, with no restrictions, is required as a condition for hire and for continued employment if hired. If current licensure is with another state or is not active, then you must be able obtain or renew licensure with the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• A minimum of five (5) years of full-time experience that includes the following:
• Clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist. This requirement may include experience as an occupational therapy assistant.
• Administrative experience that includes, but is not limited to, program planning and implementation, personnel management, evaluation and budgeting.
• Experience working with Occupational Therapy Assistants.
• Three (3) years of experience as a faculty member teaching occupational therapy or occupational therapy assisting in a postsecondary and/or community college environment.
• Scholarship (e.g. scholarship of application, scholarship of teaching and learning)
• Part-time experience will be converted to its full-time equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced post-professional clinical degree. Qualifying degree must be awarded by a regionally accredited institution.
• Fieldwork Educator Certificate awarded by American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and active membership with the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
• Clinical experience and expertise in the areas of psychiatry, management, research, neuro, pediatrics, and/or adult physical disabilities.
• Education, training and/or experience with teaching hybrid or online courses, with Canvas Learning Management System for teaching, and/or Zoom.
• Experience with and preparation for teaching culturally, linguistically, socio-economically, and academically diverse students at the college-level.

Hiring Range:

Starting salary is commensurate based on education, experience and other appropriately qualifying factors within assigned rank and will fall within the specified hiring range for the assigned rank. Rank is determined by education and academic teaching experience. The hiring range for each rank is as follows: Assistant Professor ($72,000 to $84,000), Associate Professor ($81,000 to $93,000) and Professor ($90,000 to $102,000).
