Primary Purpose

Demonstrated expertise in educating students with a prior faculty appointment or by way of clinical expertise as an Occupational Therapist or other responsible professional position related to an academic area of specialization contained within the Health Professions Division.

Essential Job Functions

1. Teaches graduate Occupational Therapy course(s) as assigned.
2. Selects teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting.
3. Presents ideas clearly.
4. Creates a climate that is conducive to learning.
5. Stimulates intellectual curiosity.
6. Provides and maintains a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation, and consultation.
7. Participates in department, college-wide, and university-wide committees and meetings.
8. Engages in curriculum development related to current and new courses.
9. Maintains a personal professional development plan, which may include research or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field.
10. Displays behavior consistent with professional ethics.
11. May manage subordinates in the classroom or laboratory.
12. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws.
13. Participates in state and/or local community service that is a recognized form of career development.
14. Mentors and/or orient new faculty as assigned.
15. Educates Occupational Therapy graduate students in entry-level and post-professional programs, with a focus on occupation- and evidence-based practice.
16. Proficient with face to face, as well as online teaching formats.
17. Collaborates with fellow faculty members within the department, college, and division to develop and participate in courses, research projects, and community service.
18. Teaches courses in foundations as well as a specialty practice area.
19. Mentors graduate research at both entry- and doctoral level, serves on or chairs dissertation committees.
20. Serves on program, college, division, and university committees.
21. Advises students.
22. Engages in scholarly activities within and outside of the department.
23. Completes special projects as assigned.
24. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements

Appointment to the rank of professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization.

Appointment to the rank of associate professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Appointment to the rank of assistant professor requires completion of professional training, which in most disciplines will be a terminal degree (usually the earned doctorate), and the clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
• Ability to effectively present information to students, public groups, or professional organizations in the English language.
• Ability to work with appropriate mathematical concepts specific to the particular discipline.
• Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.
• Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
• Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.).

Required Certifications/Licensures

• Initial certification by the National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
• State of Florida licensure required as of date of hire.

• Doctoral degree from an institution that is accredited by a USDE recognized regional accrediting body.
• Five (5) years of related clinical and/or teaching experience, as well as evidence of scholarship.
• Must be a graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program.

Preferred Qualifications

• Terminal degree (Ph. D.M.D., or D.O., or other related terminal degree) in appropriate area of specialization.
• If the doctoral degree is clinical, may be required to complete a terminal degree, in appropriate area of specialization, within seven years of start date.
