Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from accredited university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
• Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
• Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district curriculum requirements and show written evidence of preparation
• Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles
• Present subject matter according to TEA guidelines and district policies
• Plan and use instructional strategies and materials suited to students’ learning styles
• Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
• Collaborate with special education staff to modify curricula for IEPs
• Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods
• Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers
• Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
• Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
• Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
• Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned
• Be a positive role model for students and support the school’s mission
• Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for student development
• Manage student behavior in line with Student Code of Conduct
• Take precautions to protect students and resources
• Assist in selection of books and instructional materials
• Establish and maintain open communication with parents and stakeholders
• Maintain professional relationships with colleagues and community
• Provide staff development and participate in meetings
• Supervise assigned teacher aides
