Job summary

THOM Thomas Hospitals is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians and nursing staff. You will greet patients, obtain vital signs, prepare exam rooms, and assist with exams and procedures.

The role requires a high school diploma or MA program completion, at least 1 year of healthcare experience, and BLS certification within 30 days of hire. Shift is day, with 40 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of Medical Assistant program or 1 year healthcare experience.
• Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Greet and escort patients to exam rooms and collect initial information and vitals.
• Prepare exam rooms, ensure cleanliness, and maintain supplies.
• Assist with exams, tests, and procedures as directed.
• Schedule appointments and manage referrals.
• Assist providers during examinations and procedures.
• Educate patients on follow-up expectations.
• Maintain quality control testing logs.
• Ensure all medical equipment is functioning properly.
• Assist with medical documentation and basic office tasks.
• Handle cash deposits and other closing duties.

Job description

Performs basic nursing skills, and/or serves under the direction and supervision of the practice physician and/or registered nursing staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program OR one (1) year of experience in a clinical setting.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of healthcare education course work.

Experience

• One (1) year of healthcare experience.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Greets and escorts patient to exam rooms; prepares for physician visit by obtaining initial information and vital signs.
• Prepares exam rooms for patients with attention to cleanliness and availability of supplies.
• Assists with and/or performs exams, tests, and procedures.
• Schedules appointments and sets up referral contacts as needed.
• Assists provider during patient examinations and procedures.
• Educates patients on follow up expectations.
• Maintains quality control testing logs as required.
• Ensures all medical equipment is in proper working condition.
• Assists patients with completion of medical documentation.
• Assists with office administrative tasks to include but not limited to answering phones, taking messages, performing office related task (copying, printing, data entry, etc.) and assisting with depositing of cash and other closing duties.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• MEDIUM WORK - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly).
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-12 hour shift.
