7D School Van Driver

Job Description
The 7D Van Driver will be responsible for safe and orderly transportation of students with disabilities on assigned route. Operate a school bus/van that transports students with disabilities and other authorized personnel to and from schools or designated locations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Massachusetts 7D School Transport license
- Must be 21 years of age
- Ability to pass random alcohol and drug test
- Ability to complete required Bus/Van driver safety training
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Knowledge of student discipline procedures
- Ability to manage student behavior
- Ability to operate Bus/Van
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
(Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Assist SPED students, including those in wheelchairs, to and from Bus as needed.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to work flexible hours including some evening and weekend work
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Vehicle Operation
- Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules.
- Drive bus/van to and from extracurricular activities.
- Check bus/van for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs.
- Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, mechanical failure, and complete required reports.
- Keep records on bus/van mileage, gas and oil consumption, and number of passengers transported.
- Keep assigned bus/van clean and fueled.
- Inspect bus/van by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure bus/van can be operated safely before driving.
SAFETY
- Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses/vans.
- Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflectors.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not immediately correctable.
- Report any hazardous conditions along scheduled routes.
- Help students with disabilities, including those in wheelchairs, get on and off bus/vans according to their individual needs.
- Learn and adapt to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
- Supervise students as they board and leave bus and cross street.
- Communicate with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on bus.
- Maintain discipline and report student discipline problems to appropriate administrator
- Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations.
OTHER DUTIES
- Operate two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office.
- Work irregular hours as needed.
- Attend and complete required training program to maintain certification status.
- Other duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT USED
School bus or light van, wheelchair lift ramp, locks, seatbelts, harnesses, car seats, special adaptive equipment, safety equipment (flares, reflective signs), fire extinguisher.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions; pushing, pulling, moderate lifting. Work outside and inside; moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes.
Terms:
Up to 30 hours per week. Additional weekend/evening work may be available.
$18.85 per hour
Salary: $18 Per Hour

Job Requirements
- PLEASE NOTE: a Massachusetts 7D School Transport license must be obtained prior to start date. This license can be applied for by anyone over twenty-one years of age with a minimum of three continuous years as a licensed motor vehicle operator. Candidates must successfully complete of a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) form and a National Background Check (fingerprint) in accordance with Massachusetts Law
