Job summary

School City of Hammond seeks a Dual Language Immersion (DLI) teacher who reports to the building principal and supports students' academic, social, and emotional growth through a rigorous bilingual program. You will collaborate with educators, families, and the community to implement the program's core purposes.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in education, Indiana license, and strong English and Spanish skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education.
• Indiana educator’s license (Current).
• Experience in second language acquisition or bilingual education.
• Advanced proficiency in English and Spanish.
• SIOP and WIDA training.
• Proficiency in Spanish - Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening.
• Ability to teach content in Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Create and implement the Dual Language Curriculum.
• Provide individualized as well as whole group language instruction.
• Develop academic language for student success in content areas.
• Evaluate and keep grades, absentees for each student in a formal record/computer grade book.
• Create and implement lesson plans that meet Indiana/WIDA/ISTE standards.
• Maintain an attractive, neat classroom conducive to language learning.
• Teach core content areas in the target language using Indiana Academic Standards.
• Integrate both English and the target language in teaching of grade level content.
• Demonstrate fluency in both English and the target language.
• Collaborate with staff, administrators, and parents on cultural programs/opportunities for students.
• Work with diverse students and families.
