Job summary

School City of Hammond seeks a Dual Language Immersion (DLI) teacher to foster academic, social, and emotional growth. The teacher collaborates with staff, parents, and the community to promote the DLI program and integrates English and Spanish in instruction.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Education, Indiana license, and strong bilingual proficiency; ENL/ESL endorsement is preferred. The position involves curriculum implementation and alignment to Indiana standards in a dynamic school

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education.
• Indiana license current.
• ENL/ESL endorsement preferred.
• Instructional experience in second language acquisition or bilingual education.
• Advanced proficiency in English and Spanish (written and oral).
• SIOP and WIDA trained.
• Proficiency in Spanish - reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
• Ability to teach content in Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Creating and implementing the Dual Language Curriculum
• Provide individualized as well as whole group language instruction
• Develop academic language for student success in content areas
• Evaluate and keep grades, absentees for each student in a formal record/computer grade book
• Responsible for creating and implementing lesson plans that meet Indiana/WIDA/ISTE standards
• Responsible for maintenance of attractive, neat classroom that presents an atmosphere conducive to language learning
• Teaches core content areas in the target language (language arts, math, social studies, science) using the Indiana Academic Standards
• Able to integrate both English and the target language in the teaching of grade level content
• Possesses demonstrated oral and written fluency in both English and the target language
• Collaborates with staff, administrators, and parents in the development and implementation of cultural programs/opportunities for students
• Able to work with students and parents who are culturally, racially and linguistically diverse
• Other duties as assigned by building/district administration
