Job summary

The School City of Hammond is seeking a DLI teacher to lead bilingual instruction and support the Dual Language Immersion program. You will develop the curriculum, deliver language instruction in English and Spanish, and assess student growth in academic language across content areas.

You will collaborate with administrators, teachers, and families to promote inclusive learning, maintain accurate records, and ensure alignment with Indiana Academic Standards and ISTE expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education is required.
  • Indiana educator’s license (Current) is required.
  • ENL/ESL Endorsement preferred.
  • Experience in second language acquisition or bilingual education.
  • Advanced proficiency in English and Spanish (written and oral) required.
  • SIOP and WIDA trained.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and implementing the Dual Language Curriculum.
  • Provide individualized as well as whole group language instruction.
  • Develop academic language for student success in content areas.
  • Evaluate and keep grades, absentees for each student in a formal record/computer grade book.
  • Create and implement lesson plans meeting Indiana/WIDA/ISTE standards.
  • Maintain an attractive, neat classroom conducive to language learning.
  • Teach core content areas in the target language using the Indiana Academic Standards.
  • Integrate English and the target language in grade level content.
  • Demonstrate fluency in both English and the target language.
  • Collaborate with staff, administrators, and parents on cultural programs for students.
  • Work with diverse students and families.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Administrator.

  • Instructional experience in second language acquisition or bilingual education
  • Advanced written and oral proficiency in English and Spanish (Required)

Specific Responsibilities In This Position

  • Teaches core content areas in the target language (language arts, math, social studies, science) using the Indiana Academic Standards
  • Able to integrate both English and the target language in the teaching of grade level content
  • Possesses demonstrated oral and written fluency in both English and the target language
  • Collaborates with staff, administrators, and parents in the development and implementation of cultural programs/opportunities for students
  • Able to work with students and parents who are culturally, racially and linguistically diverse
