Job summary

Responsibilities

• With Director, determine suitable plays for student performers and production team.
• Create and communicate rehearsal and production schedules with facility availability and staff.
• Attend regular production meetings with Director, Technical Director, and Performing Arts Center Manager.
• Determine projected production needs (scenic, costuming, props, lighting, sound, publicity) within budget.
• Prepare audition materials in collaboration with production staff.
• Conduct auditions and callbacks.
• Cast the show with Director guidance.
• Assign student production team roles with staff collaboration.
• Train student stage managers and production team on safety and orientation.
• Design and oversee publicity branding, posters, and programs; distribute materials.
• Coordinate publicity with the district Communications Department.
• Supervise students from first call to post-show duties for each tech/dress rehearsal and performance.
• Strike the show after final performance with staff and Performing Arts Center Manager.
• Return rented/borrowed materials as applicable.

Job Description

Performance Criteria:

• With Director, determine what play will best suit the needs and abilities of likely student performers and production team members.
• With Director, create and communicate rehearsal and production schedules based on rehearsal and performance facility availability in collaboration with production staff; ensure members of the production staff are in attendance for all calls.
• Participate in regular production meetings with Director, Technical Director, and Performing Arts Center Manager (and when possible, student production team leaders).
• With Director, determine projected production needs including but not limited to scenic, costuming, props, lighting, sound, and publicity needs.
• With Director, prepare materials needed for auditions in collaboration with other production staff.
• With Director, conduct auditions and call-backs.
• With Director, cast the show.
• With Director and Technical Director, determine student production team roles and assignments in collaboration with production staff.
• Train student stage managers and production team in collaboration with production staff and Performing Arts Center Manager; training should include roles and responsibilities as well as safety and orientation to facility and its equipment.
• Collaborate with production staff (and when possible, student production team leaders) to design and build or purchase technical theatre needs including but not limited to scenic, costuming, props, lighting, sound, publicity, and front of house needs while adhering to budget limitations.
• Conduct rehearsals and block portions of the show as determined by collaboration with Director.
• In collaboration with production staff (and when possible, student production team leaders), design publicity branding and logos, posters, and programs. Oversee the distribution of publicity materials.
• With Director, coordinate publicity efforts with the district Communications Department.
• Be present to supervise students beginning with the first call time, throughout the performance, and until the completion of post-show duties for each tech and dress rehearsal and each performance.
• Following the last performance, strike the show in collaboration with production staff and Performing Arts Center Manager.
• Return any rented or borrowed materials including scripts as applicable.
