Job summary

Cephas Consultancy Services Private Limited seeks a Senior Data/Reporting Engineer to modernize Power BI reporting for a key client. You will analyze reports and embedded logic, drive report rationalization, and contribute to transitioning analytics toward a unified semantic layer.

Collaborating with the client and Data Architect, you’ll be hands-on, data-driven, and able to engage effectively with business and technical stakeholders to improve performance, maintainability and scalability.

Qualifications

• 5-8+ years in BI, data analytics, analytics engineering, or senior reporting roles.
• Hands-on Power BI, DAX, Power Query, and SQL in enterprise reporting environments.
• Proven experience reverse-engineering existing reports to identify embedded business/data logic.

About the Role

The Senior Data/Reporting Analyst will collaborate with the client and Data Architect to modernize the existing Power BI reporting landscape. This role focuses on analyzing reports and embedded business logic, supporting report rationalization, identifying reusable data elements, and facilitating the transition of reporting towards a common semantic/data layer. The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, and comfortable engaging directly with business and technical stakeholders to enhance reporting consistency, maintainability, and scalability.

• Advanced Power BI expertise, including Power Query (M), DAX, semantic modeling, and performance optimization.
• Strong SQL skills for analyzing, transforming, reconciling, and validating data from multiple sources.
• Proficiency in reverse-engineering existing Power BI reports, including embedded business logic, transformations, calculations, data sources, and dependencies.
• Solid understanding of semantic/data models, dimensional modeling, and reusable data structures to minimize report-level logic.
• Experience with Databricks / Spark SQL or equivalent cloud data platforms and curated analytical datasets.
• Self-driven and hands-on, with the ability to independently manage assigned reporting and analysis tasks.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in complex and poorly documented reporting environments.
• Excellent client-facing communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with business and technical stakeholders.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity, asking pertinent questions, and proactively identifying dependencies and risks.
• Collaborative and pragmatic approach, working closely with the Data Architect and client teams while balancing immediate reporting needs with long-term modernization goals.

Required Qualifications

• 5-8+ years of experience in BI, data analytics, analytics engineering, or senior reporting/data analyst roles.
• Strong hands-on experience with Power BI, DAX, Power Query, and SQL in enterprise reporting environments.
• Proven experience analyzing and reverse-engineering existing reports to identify embedded business/data logic and dependencies.
• Experience with report rationalization/modernization and semantic or shared data models, including retain, retire, quick-fix, and rebuild assessments.
• Experience with Databricks or equivalent cloud data platforms. Python and Azure DevOps/GitHub experience are preferred.
