Job Title: Literacy Instructor – 5th-6th Grade (After School Program)

Location: 610 W 112th Street, New York, NY 10025

Schedule: Weekly – October 2025 to May 2026; Tuesdays 4:30‑6:30pm (after school)

Pay: $35–$45 per hour (part‑time, hourly paid)

Overview

Liberty LEADS seeks an instructor to implement project‑based literacy classes with our middle school students in after‑school programs. The classes are seminar style, interactive, and include group projects designed to enhance writing skills, critical thinking, and writing stamina.

Responsibilities
  • Create, adapt, and implement reading and writing curricula for groups of 10–25 students (online or in person) in 5th–8th grade.
  • Engage students and modify curriculum based on student needs and the medium (in‑person or Zoom).
  • Manage in‑person and remote classrooms using positive behavior‑management strategies.
  • Prepare lesson plans, submit weekly plans one week in advance for approval.
  • Deliver a final project for presentation at the end‑of‑year celebration.
  • Meet regularly with the Liberty LEADS Middle School Coordinator for supervision and debriefing.
  • Ensure reliable Wi‑Fi, computer, and camera during online sessions; students must appear on camera.
Qualifications
  • NYS Teacher Certification or professional proficiency in content area preferred.
  • Experience with middle‑school youth and child development knowledge.
  • Strong communication skills and group‑development experience.
  • Experience teaching classes using Zoom platform preferred.
  • Reliable Wi‑Fi and computer access.
