Core work hours will be 14:00-22:00. Flexibility in scheduled hours and ability to work overtime as needed, is a must.

Scope of Job

The Regular Slice Casepacker Operator is responsible to their supervisor for the operation of all equipment, and the coordination of production in the Case packing area. This person must know the operation procedures, and quality specifications of all individual packaged, totes, barreled, and cased Regular Slice products. The Operator will perform minor mechanical adjustments. Works from brief verbal instructions, and is expected to perform without close supervision. The Operator is a member of the Regular Slice Team, and is responsible for coordinating the work of others in the case packing area. The job requires basic mechanical, computer controller, mathematical, and leadership skills. The ability to read the production schedule, code dates, operation codes for supplies, and fill out quality checklists and line checks. Most activies are moderately varied in nature and communication is a key factor in this position. The Casepacker Operator is an important member of the crew, as such they are expected to participate in Green Room meetings, discuss the previous days production run, and submit ideas that assist the department in making improvements to its processes and procedures.

Job Responsibilities
  • Production: Must be licensed and able to operate a fork truck proficiently. Supplies and operates all final packaging equipment. Fills glue pots properly and checks to ensure proper operation. Salvages damaged packages. Changes and covers barrels or tubs and marks with proper ticket information. Must be able to program, setup and change over the computerized equipment. Properly change over machines with the help from the Line Tech. Manages Code daters, and Labeler and X ray machines. Check that the proper supplies for the production run are on hand. Check automatic controls to ensure they are functioning properly. Reject all faulty supplies and complete the required paper work. Assist the crew in achieving their daily measures. Responsible for attending all mandatory training sessions. Communicate with Dept. and Palletizer Op about changeovers. Call back pallets from Palletizer if there is a packaging issue (code date, wrong paper, zippers, etc.). Fill out IDT, and or place product on Hold if necessary. Enter data and codes in MEZ OEE system. Train, help, and direct new employees to the area. Help with break relief if necessary. Perform duties as required by the supervisor.
  • Sanitation: Responsible for the Sanitation requirements in their area. Directly responsible for the housekeeping in the work area. Responsible for following good GMP’s.
  • Maintenance: Make the proper adjustments or call a Line Technician to make required adjustments to ensure a quality product is sent to the palletizer. Setup, and change over the equipment for product changes.
  • Quality: Inspect the packages from each over wrap for quality; code dates, seals, correct paper and paper alignment. Check cases for quality; code dates, correct shipper, bar code label (if required) and that the case is square. Collect and label lab samples at appropriate times. Ensure that the machine is cleaned out properly after smash-ups to avoid packages with product on the exterior of the packages. Prevent package distortion due to package conveyor. Communicate so that product is stacked off. Conduct a finished case checks when required, to ensure that the package inside is not being damaged Place Production on Hold and fill out an IDT if required Manage IDT’s and coordinate Held Product completion.
  • Equipment Operated: Case Packers, Fork Lifts, Hand cart, Code dating equipment, Labelers, X-ray, Metal detectors, Case erector, Misc. Conveying equipment, Operate Barrel filling equipment
  • Lifting Requirements: Moderate – At times will be required to remove 40# case from Douglas. Slide 450 to 500 pound barrels on a pallet. Handle pallets, and assemble multiple sizes and styles of Product totes.
  • Working Conditions: Fair – At times the pace can be strenuous and hectic. Temperatures of the environment will vary. Other work hazards are moderate, fairly predictable and controllable.
  • Safety: Must follow all safety rules. Use LO/TO switches on the equipment when changing parts. Visually observe that all other employees are clear of equipment before starting any equipment. Be aware of the environment and look for potential situations in which you or another employee could be hurt. Report these near misses to the Line Technician or Supervisor. Perform safety checks at start-up. Use two forms of safety when cleaning out jams. Example is a door open and an E-Stop and both feet on the ground.
  • Training: The Casepacker Operator is trained for a maximum of 60 days and expected to be competent after the training period is complete.
