Job description

Loudoun Country Day School (LCDS) is looking for an enthusiastic, talented educator to join our team as a lead teacher in 4th grade for the 2025-2026 Academic year. Reporting to the Lower School Director, our new 4th grade teacher will be a collaborative and passionate educator with a learner’s mindset.

This is a full-time position. The person hired will teach Language Arts and Math every day to the students in their respective homerooms, and a speciality subject (possibly science, social studies, writing, or grammar) twice per week to all of the students in the grade. They will also attend teacher workdays and meetings, and assume various duties commensurate with those of other LCDS full-time teachers.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively, contribute to a collegial environment, and assist with tasks outside the job description when needed
  • Growth mindset and a willingness to engage in ongoing learning
  • Ability to connect and build positive relationships with children and create a classroom culture characterized by kindness, respect, and integrity
  • Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree is preferred), preferably in Education or one of the subjects that would be taught (English, math, science, or a social science)
  • Experience teaching students in the 8 -11 years old range

Teaching Qualifications:

  • Possess an understanding of and passion for working with upper elementary age learners (8-11 years old)
  • Ability to create an environment and offer experiences that maximize student engagement, critical and creative thinking, and authentic learning
  • Ability to employ differentiated instruction to meet learners at their level of need and utilize a variety of teaching methods
  • Ability to organize classroom systems and procedures and manage student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged and learning
  • Ability to assess students' knowledge for the purposes of refining classroom activities and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students' progress, expectations and goals
  • Comfortable using technology and incorporating it into teaching
  • Willingness to attend planning and faculty meetings and school provided professional development and play an active role in the life of the school
