Become a Founding Teacher: KIPP Catto

KIPP Octavius Catto Elementary opened in August 2022 at 4601 Market Street in West Philly, initially serving K-1, with plans to expand to K-4. Named after Octavius Catto, an educator, athlete, and civil rights activist, the school uses the metaphor of a flame to represent student potential, fueled by community, staff, and student experience.

Dr. Amanda Hill-Hennie, who has served as Principal in Residence and currently leads KIPP Catto, oversees the school.

Job Responsibilities
Classroom Responsibilities
  • Create an affirming, engaging classroom environment
  • Develop and implement lesson plans using provided curricula
  • Integrate core values into daily practices
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and focused learning space
  • Use student data to inform instruction
  • Provide accommodations for all students' success
  • Keep accurate records and communicate with families
  • Model school policies and serve as a role model
Special Education Responsibilities
  • Develop and evaluate special education programs and supports
  • Maintain IEPs, 504s, and evaluations; ensure fidelity of services
  • Lead intervention and evaluation efforts
  • Engage with parents and provide case management
  • Deliver instruction to students with special education supports
Professional Responsibilities
  • Own your professional growth through coaching and feedback
  • Participate in school-wide PD
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to grade team initiatives
  • Provide constructive feedback and embody KPPS core values
  • Complete certification requirements if applicable
School Responsibilities
  • Attend school events outside of hours
  • Contribute to school-wide activities and events
  • Build relationships with families through home visits and communication
  • Perform support duties as needed
  • Chaperone field trips and participate in additional duties as assigned

Qualifications & Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Pennsylvania certification (Level I or II) preferred; if uncertified, enroll in a PA-approved program within a year and submit transcripts
  • Complete criminal and child abuse background checks (PA State Police, Child Abuse, Fingerprinting)
