Job summary

Compass International Holdings is seeking a Sr Fullstack Engineer (Java, Node, React, TypeScript) for remote-based work across Argentina, Uruguay or Mexico. You will design back-end services, migrate legacy Node/TS to Java, and apply AI coding tools to streamline development while supporting full-stack needs with React.

They require 7+ years in software engineering, fluent English, and strong Java/Spring Boot experience, plus AWS serverless and PostgreSQL skills.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering with backend focus.
• English fluent written and spoken.
• Experience building production services with Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience with legacy system modernization; reimplementing Node.js/TypeScript in Java.
• Strong AWS serverless and event-driven architecture experience.
• Solid PostgreSQL knowledge; SQL and data modeling skills.
• Familiar with agentic AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code).
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent.

At Compass, You Will:

• Design & Build Production Services: Act as a modern Java expert to independently design, build, and deploy robust production backend services utilizing Java and Spring Boot.
• Drive Legacy Migrations: Take ownership of maintaining and successfully reimplementing legacy Node.js/TypeScript services into our modern Java/Spring Boot architecture.
• Ensure Quality & Reliability: Maintain a strong testing discipline by applying rigorous unit and integration testing practices (using JUnit or equivalent) across all deliverables.
• Leverage Cloud Native Technologies: Build, deploy, and scale event-driven services using hands‑on experience with AWS serverless technologies (including Lambda, ECS, SNS, or equivalent).
• Incorporate AI-Assisted Development: Actively utilize agentic AI coding tools (such as Claude Code) as a core, fluent part of your daily development, refactoring, and testing workflows to drive efficiency.
• Support Full-Stack Initiatives: Whenever applicable, contribute to the broader technology ecosystem by leveraging your React experience for full-stack development needs.

What We Look For:

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on backend development.
• English fluent level spoken/written
• Deep, hands‑on expertise in building production services with modern Java and Spring Boot.
• Proven experience with legacy system modernization, specifically maintaining and reimplementing Node.js/TypeScript services in Java.
• Strong experience with AWS serverless and event-driven architectures (e.g., Lambda, ECS, SNS).
• Solid understanding of RDBMS fundamentals and hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL.
• Demonstrated fluency with agentic AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code) as an integral part of the development workflow.
• A strong commitment to quality, demonstrated by deep experience with unit and integration testing frameworks like JUnit.
• (Preferred) Experience with MongoDB or MS SQL.
• (Preferred) Solid experience with modern React for full-stack development contributions.
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
