Job summary

AmeriCorps & Senior Corps seeks a passionate 4-H Youth Instructor in Boundary County, ID to deliver STEAM learning and youth development within afterschool and community settings.

You will mentor youth, coordinate events, build partnerships with schools and extension faculty, and recruit volunteers while maintaining a safe, engaging learning environment that fosters collaboration and critical thinking.

Qualifications

  • Experience delivering STEM/STEAM education to youth.
  • Experience coordinating afterschool programs and community events.
  • Strong mentoring and communication skills with youth.
  • Ability to recruit and engage volunteers and family partners.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate planning, implementation, and evaluation of youth programs in STEAM and healthy living.
  • Deliver engaging educational activities across afterschool programs, events, camps, and partnerships.
  • Develop relationships with schools, community partners, and University Extension staff.
  • Supervise youth leaders and volunteers during activities and events.
  • Collect data, report on impact, and support volunteer recruitment and training.

4-H Youth Instructor - Boundary County 26-27


The 4-H STEM AmeriCorps Program provides direct service to youth by delivering high-quality STEAM education and youth development programming throughout the service year. Members facilitate hands-on learning experiences in afterschool programs, community-based settings, special events, and educational workshops. Through these activities, members help youth develop critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and creativity while fostering a positive and engaging learning environment.Beyond instruction, members serve as mentors and role models. They create safe, supportive environments where youth can explore new ideas, develop confidence, and build positive relationships. By modeling integrity, empathy, and perseverance, members help youth envision a future filled with opportunity. This mentorship extends beyond academics, encompassing essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and decision-making.Members organize events that bring families into the learning process, fostering stronger connections between youth, parents, and the community. These events may include STEM fairs, family science nights, and showcases of youth projects, all aimed at reinforcing the value of education and collaboration.Volunteer recruitment and engagement are also key responsibilities. By expanding the network of caring adults involved in youth programs, members amplify the program’s reach and sustainability.


Member Duties : Bonners Ferry, ID- Coordinate (plan, implement, and evaluate) youth programming in the areas of STEAM and healthy living for diverse and underserved audiences. Deliver engaging educational programs through a variety of settings, including afterschool programs, community events, workshops, camps, clubs, and school partnerships. Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, schools, and University of Idaho Extension faculty and staff to expand program reach and impact. Assist with supervising and coordinating youth leaders and teen volunteers during program activities and events. Complete accurate data collection and reporting requirements and support volunteer recruitment, training, and engagement as needed. Serve as a mentor and positive role model for youth, teaching important life skills and providing meaningful opportunities for exploration, personal growth, and learning in a fun, engaging, and non-formal educational environment.
