Job summary

Control Tech in Troy, PA, is seeking a 3rd Year Instrument Apprentice field technician to learn from Journeyman and advance skills in testing, calibration, installation and inspection of manufacturing instrumentation.

You will read P&ID drawings, assist with installing transmitters, controllers, analysers, and valves; perform maintenance, calibration and record-keeping; participate in safety programs and on-call support.

Qualifications

• Registered Apprentice preferred.
• High School Diploma required.
• First Aid/CPR with AED; H2S Alive, CSO, CSTS.
• Oil and gas experience is an asset.
• Pre-employment drug and alcohol test required for safety-sensitive roles.
• Criminal background check required; results assessed for relevance.
• Clean driving record per company standards (no major violations; ≤3 infractions in 5 years).

Responsibilities

• Reads and understands P&ID drawings.
• Assists with installing process instrumentation (transmitters, controllers, analyzers, valves).
• Performs mechanical work for instrument repair and modification; handles small piping/tubing.
• Rebuilds control valves and tunes controllers.
• Performs calibration and maintenance; keeps records of field instruments.
• Uses test equipment to troubleshoot systems.
• Installs and repairs chemical pumps.
• Participates in safety programs and company policies.
• On-call support as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Brief:

The 3rd Year Instrument Apprentice field technician will work with and learn from Instrument Journeyman and other apprentices. The Apprentice will be shown practical skills and learn to test, calibrate, install, repair, and inspect manufacturing equipment and monitoring devices.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Learns to read and understand P&ID drawings.
• Assists with Installing process control and measurement instrumentation on existing and new field equipment and processes (transmitters, controllers, analyzers, control valves, etc.).
• Performs mechanical work associated with instrument repair and modification; removes and installs small piping and tubing.
• Rebuilds control valves and tune controllers.
• Performs preventative maintenance on instrumentation (calibration, replacement and tests as required); maintains field instrument records and standards.
• Uses pressure and/or electrical test equipment to troubleshoot systems.
• Installs and repairs chemical pumps.
• Participates/complies with company safety programs & company policies.
• Provides on-call support as required.
• Other duties as required.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

• Registered Apprentice, preferred.
• High School Diploma
• Standard First Aid/CPR with AED; H2S Alive, CSO, CSTS.
• Experience in oil and gas is an asset.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (required for safety-sensitive roles).
• Completion of a criminal background check, with results assessed based on relevance to the position.
• Verification of a clean driving record, as defined by Control Tech’s standards (e.g., no major violations, no more than 3 infractions in the past 5 years).
