Job summary

Control Tech Ltd in Troy, PA is seeking a 1st Year Instrument Apprentice field technician to learn from Instrument Journeyman. You will test, calibrate, install, repair and inspect manufacturing equipment and monitoring devices.

You will read P&ID drawings, install instrumentation, perform mechanical work, rebuild valves, tune controllers, and maintain field records. On‑call duties may apply.

Qualifications

• Registered Apprentice preferred.
• High School Diploma.
• First Aid/CPR with AED; H2S Alive, CSO, CSTS.
• Oil and gas experience is an asset.
• Pre-employment drug and alcohol test required.
• Criminal background check required.
• Clean driving record per company standards.

Responsibilities

• Reads and understands P&ID drawings.
• Assists with installing process control and measurement instrumentation.
• Performs mechanical work on instrument repair and modification.
• Rebuilds control valves and tunes controllers.
• Performs calibration, maintenance and tests; maintains records.
• Uses test equipment to troubleshoot systems.
• Installs and repairs chemical pumps.
• Supports safety programs and on-call duties.
• Other duties as required.

Job Brief:

The 1st Year Instrument Apprentice field technician will work with and learn from Instrument Journeyman and other apprentices. The Apprentice will be shown practical skills and learn to test, calibrate, install, repair, and inspect manufacturing equipment and monitoring devices.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Learns to read and understand P&ID drawings.
• Assists with Installing process control and measurement instrumentation on existing and new field equipment and processes (transmitters, controllers, analyzers, control valves, etc.).
• Performs mechanical work associated with instrument repair and modification; removes and installs small piping and tubing.
• Rebuilds control valves and tune controllers.
• Performs preventative maintenance on instrumentation (calibration, replacement and tests as required); maintains field instrument records and standards.
• Uses pressure and/or electrical test equipment to troubleshoot systems.
• Installs and repairs chemical pumps.
• Participates/complies with company safety programs & company policies.
• Provides on-call support as required.
• Other duties as required.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

• Registered Apprentice, preferred.
• High School Diploma
• Standard First Aid/CPR with AED; H2S Alive, CSO, CSTS.
• Experience in oil and gas is an asset.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (required for safety-sensitive roles).
• Completion of a criminal background check, with results assessed based on relevance to the position.
• Verification of a clean driving record, as defined by Control Tech’s standards (e.g., no major violations, no more than 3 infractions in the past 5 years).
