Job summary

Control Tech in Troy, PA is hiring a 1st Year Instrument Apprentice field technician who will work with and learn from Instrument Journeyman and other apprentices. The apprentice will be shown practical skills and learn to test, calibrate, install, repair, and inspect manufacturing equipment and monitoring devices.

Qualifications

• Experience in oil and gas is considered an asset.
• High School Diploma required; Registered Apprentice preferred.
• Certifications such as First Aid/CPR with AED, H2S Alive, CSO, CSTS are required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Learns reading and understanding P&ID drawings.
• Assists with installing process control and measurement instrumentation.
• Performs mechanical work related to instrument repair and modification; removes and installs small piping and tubing.
• Rebuilds control valves and tunes controllers.
• Performs preventative maintenance on instrumentation and maintains field instrument records.
• Uses test equipment to troubleshoot systems.
• Installs and repairs chemical pumps.
• Participates in safety programs and company policies.
• Provides on-call support as required.
• Other duties as required.

Job Brief:

The 1st Year Instrument Apprentice field technician will work with and learn from Instrument Journeyman and other apprentices. The Apprentice will be shown practical skills and learn to test, calibrate, install, repair, and inspect manufacturing equipment and monitoring devices.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Learns to read and understand P&ID drawings.
• Assists with Installing process control and measurement instrumentation on existing and new field equipment and processes (transmitters, controllers, analyzers, control valves, etc.).
• Performs mechanical work associated with instrument repair and modification; removes and installs small piping and tubing.
• Rebuilds control valves and tune controllers.
• Performs preventative maintenance on instrumentation (calibration, replacement and tests as required); maintains field instrument records and standards.
• Uses pressure and/or electrical test equipment to troubleshoot systems.
• Installs and repairs chemical pumps.
• Participates/complies with company safety programs & company policies.
• Provides on-call support as required.
• Other duties as required.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

• Registered Apprentice, preferred.
• High School Diploma
• Standard First Aid/CPR with AED; H2S Alive, CSO, CSTS.
• Experience in oil and gas is an asset.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test (required for safety-sensitive roles).
• Completion of a criminal background check, with results assessed based on relevance to the position.
• Verification of a clean driving record, as defined by Control Tech’s standards (e.g., no major violations, no more than 3 infractions in the past 5 years).
