L.L. Bean is seeking temporary workers for its 3rd Shift warehouse in Freeport, Maine. The positions will start at 9:00 pm and finish at 6:30 am, Sunday through Thursday (with additional work days between Thanksgiving and Christmas). These temporary roles may continue through February 2027, depending on business needs.
Pay range: $20.00 – $25.00 per hour, based on the position and rehire experience.
Minimum availability: at least 18 hours per week (three 6-hour days). Maximum availability: up to 40 hours per week, depending on business needs.
Stocking
- Safely and accurately perform a variety of material transfer functions.
- Handle and lift cases up to 50 lbs.; cut cases with a knife; offload, stack, and transfer U-boats full of cases.
- Induct cases onto the belt using a vacuum‑assist device.
- Perform basic math and use computer functions; learn new computer systems.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
- Physical demands: stand/walk approx. 9 miles; lift up to 50 lbs. overhead; bend, lift, reach, squat repeatedly.
Machine Operator
- Operate and maintain an Order Picker machine: put away, pull, stock cases, retrieve orders, transfer totes to conveyor belts.
- Basic math and computer skills; learn new systems.
- Multitask, change tasks frequently; strong attention to detail.
- Prior experience with warehouse machines is preferred but not required.
- Comfortable working at heights; stand full shift; maximum operator height 6 ft 4 in; minimum 5 ft 3 in.
- Physical demands: stand entire shift; lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly; work at heights; wear harness rated for up to 400 lbs. operator weight.
Material Handler
- Perform material transfer functions: handle and lift cases up to 50 lbs.; stack pallets; replenish supplies.
- Ensure constant workflow; identify and resolve conveyor jams or stoppages.
- Basic math, English language competency, and basic computer use.
- Physical demands: stand/walk entire shift (~9 miles); bend, lift, reach; climb ladders and stairs; pull pallet jack; push U-boats; lift up to 50 lbs. to 54 inches overhead.
Merch Prep (Picking & Packing)
- Collect and pack orders for shipment from the warehouse.
- Basic math and English language competency; experience with computers and Windows applications.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask or change tasks frequently.
- Physical demands: stand/walk entire shift; pull or glide totes weighing up to 35 lbs. from the belt at 42 inches to a tilted tote holder; reach over shoulder repeatedly.
