Qualifications

Job Description

The Hospital Environmental Services (EVS) Overnight Lead will work closely with EVS leadership and caregivers to coordinate daily operations, maintain appropriate staffing coverage, and ensure all assigned areas meet hospital cleanliness and safety standards.

This position requires a strong leader who can prioritize assignments, respond to changing operational needs, and perform hands‑on EVS duties alongside the team.

Responsibilities include:

Orienting, training, directing, and supporting EVS caregivers.

Assisting with schedules to ensure appropriate staffing coverage.

Reassigning caregivers as patient‑care and operational needs change.

Prioritizing and delegating assignments based on urgency and departmental needs.

Monitoring caregiver performance and communicating performance concerns or policy violations to supervisors.

Supporting and enforcing policies related to patient isolation, infection prevention, safety, and Environmental Services standards.

Collaborating with EVS Team Leads and management to maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment.

Monitoring and managing EPIC throughput to support timely patient-room turnover and discharges.

Monitoring and responding to incoming phone calls and EVS service requests.

Ensuring assignments and service requests receive timely follow‑up and resolution.

Cleaning and maintaining patient rooms, exam rooms, offices, waiting areas, public restrooms, discharge rooms, and surgical and non‑surgical areas.

Stocking paper products and other necessary supplies in patient rooms, exam rooms, and restrooms.

Removing general waste, recycling, and infectious waste according to hospital procedures.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively direct and support a team.

Previous Environmental Services, hospital housekeeping, janitorial, custodial, or floor care experience preferred.

Working knowledge of EVS policies, cleaning procedures, patient hospitality standards, and infection‑prevention practices.

Knowledge of the proper use, handling, and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow established procedures and directions.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and professionally with caregivers, leadership, patients, and hospital staff.

Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑volume healthcare environment.

Flexibility with assignments and willingness to support all areas of the department.

Excellent attendance, dependability, and professionalism.

Ability to lift, push, pull, bend, and stand or walk for extended periods.

Must be available to work the 10:30 PM–7:00 AM overnight shift, including weekends and holidays, and remain on duty as needed to complete assigned responsibilities.
