Job summary

Walter Reed National Military Medical Center is seeking a Plumber to support installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems across WRNMMC facilities, ensuring reliability of critical infrastructure for patient care and operations.

The role involves diagnosing issues, performing preventive maintenance, coordinating outages, and collaborating with HVAC, electrical, and carpentry teams. On-call rotations and strict adherence to safety and infection control are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• 3–5 years of experience in commercial, institutional, or government facility plumbing.
• Trade school or vocational training preferred.
• Healthcare or military medical facility experience preferred.
• Experience with medical gas systems preferred.
• Valid plumbing license depending on task scope.
• Journeyman-level certification depending on task scope.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, and repair piping, fittings, fixtures, and equipment for heating, water, and drainage systems.
• Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on plumbing infrastructure throughout the facility.
• Diagnose system issues, identify root causes, and ensure compliant installations.
• Operate drain snakes and high-pressure jetters to clear blockages.
• Maintain plumbing systems across WRNMMC buildings including medical gas where certified.
• Respond to service orders, calls, and emergency repairs promptly.
• Inspect, test, and document plumbing systems in the CMMS per requirements.
• Coordinate outages with hospital departments to minimize disruption.
• Collaborate with HVAC, electrical, and carpentry teams on maintenance and projects.
• Participate in after-hours on-call rotations for emergencies.
• Adhere to WRNMMC safety, infection control, and environmental health standards.
• Provide recommendations for system improvements and reliability upgrades.
