Job summary

Harper Industries is seeking a dependable 3rd Shift Laser Operator for our Fabrication department. The role begins earlier in the day to support first shift operations and transitions to primary laser duties, requiring mechanical aptitude and a commitment to quality.

Responsibilities include operating CNC laser cutting and supporting equipment, reading blueprints, performing quality checks, and maintaining a safe, organized work area. Overtime may be required and safety PPE is provided.

Position Title: 3rd Shift Laser Operator

Department: Fabrication

Reports to: Fabrication Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Laser Operator to join our 3rd shift team. This role begins earlier in the day to support first shift operations before transitioning to primary laser operation responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be flexible, mechanically inclined, and committed to producing high-quality parts in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate CNC laser cutting equipment, ensuring accuracy and part quality
• Set up and monitor machines based on job specifications and production requirements
• Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and job instructions
• Set up and operate CNC Plasma
• Perform quality checks using calipers, tape measures, and other tools
• Handle and organize materials before and after cutting
• Clean, deburr, and prepare parts for the next production phase
• Follow all safety guidelines and wear required PPE
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Perform basic machine maintenance and report issues promptly

Qualifications

• Experience with CNC laser cutting preferred
• Familiarity with fabrication equipment such as piranha ironworker, tube bender, and press brake is a plus
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and use standard measuring tools
• Strong attention to detail and work ethic
• Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and standing throughout the shift
• Team-oriented with strong communication skills
• Willingness to work overtime as needed

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform frequent bending, lifting, and movement
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and over 50 lbs with assistance frequently (team lift or mechanical aid)

Work Environment

• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with temperatures that vary seasonally
• Must wear required personal protective equipment in accordance with company safety policies, including company-provided safety glasses and employee-provided steel-toed footwear; additional PPE may be required based on job duties.
