Job summary

FieldAI is seeking a Perception Engineer to advance 3D scene and traversability representations used by our robots for real-world navigation. You will develop learning-based spatial understanding from point clouds and map representations, taking ideas from research to production on physical robots.

You will design and maintain perception systems, build robust localization and mapping for challenging environments, and ensure sensor fusion across LiDAR, cameras, GPS, and IMUs.

Qualifications

• Degree in Robotics or related technical field with relevance to perception.
• 3+ years in verification, validation, or perception evaluation for robotics or autonomous systems.
• Experience with robotic sensors (LiDAR, cameras, GPS, IMUs) and perception behavior.
• Experience designing test plans, validation procedures, and performance metrics.
• Experience analyzing logs and field results for root-cause analysis.
• Strong cross-functional communication with development teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain perception systems for autonomous robots operating in real-world environments.
• Develop localization and mapping capabilities that hold up in unstructured and field conditions.
• Evaluate perception performance through testing and field validation.
• Integrate sensor data fusion algorithms across LiDAR, cameras, GPS, and IMUs.
• Deploy perception software from research to production on physical robots.
• Collaborate with autonomy, controls, and platform teams to integrate into the full stack.
