This role supervises the lighting team ensuring consistency, appeal, and strong visuals in every scene while working closely with Story, Design, Layout, and Unreal/FX departments.

You will be utilising your knowledge in Digital Lighting & Colour Correction/Grading to guide our post production team in taking the visuals of our shows to the next level.

The ideal candidate is a strong visual storyteller with exceptional drawing skills, a deep understanding of 3D animation principles, and proven experience guiding teams through complex 3D pipelines (e.g., Maya, Unreal Engine).

Your duties will include:
Creative Leadership
  • Establish and maintain the overall lighting style, tone, and visual quality of the project.

  • Evaluate storyboards, animatics and environments to identify lighting needs or challenges early.

  • Deliver high-quality draw-overs, notes, and examples that guide lighting artists toward consistent and appealing results.

Team Direction & Collaboration
  • Provide clear creative direction on lighting, mood, composition, colour, readability, and visual storytelling.

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of lighting artists, technical artists, and junior talent.

  • Collaborate with the Showrunner, Art Director, Modellers, Surfacing, FX, Compositing, and Layout to ensure stylistic cohesion.

  • Partner with Production Management to communicate priorities, review schedules, and ensure a smooth workflow across episodes or sequences.

  • Maintain an open and inclusive feedback culture, helping the team improve performance and quality.

  • Attend lighting launches, department meetings, director syncs, production meetings, and kickoffs for the team.

  • Articulate notes to the team in meetings and 1:1s.

  • Able to guide the team with notes that will also allow us to hit goals within the deadlines allocated, while meeting our quality benchmarks.

Quality Control
  • Review and approve lighting assignments, look development, and final lighting across the team.

  • Ensure all lighting adheres to the show’s visual language, lighting style guides, colour scripts, and technical standards.

  • Identify and provide paintovers or reference where required, addressing issues with mood, readability, composition, continuity, or technical quality.

  • Uphold high-quality standards while ensuring efficient and achievable workflows.

  • Work with the team to improve pipeline efficiencies and reduce revisions.

Pipeline & Technical Oversight
  • Guide the implementation of best practices for the lighting pipeline (Unreal Engine).

  • Work with Technical Directors, Rendering, FX, Look Development, and Compositing teams to optimize tools, workflows, and processes.

  • Troubleshoot artistic and technical issues that impact lighting delivery.

  • Contribute to the development of lighting templates, look development guides, technical documentation, and workflow documentation.

Strategic & Production Contribution

  • Provide input on assigning sequences to individual lighting artists based on skill and artistic strengths.

  • Troubleshoot and contribute to creative problem solving in collaboration with the team.

  • Collaborate with the executive team to ensure lighting goals align with the creative and production vision.

  • Contribute documentation to guide the team on the visual style of the show and lighting best practices.

  • Drive continuous improvement across lighting techniques, tools, and workflows.

A successful candidate will have:
