Job summary

Huron Valley School district seeks a part-time Paraeducator for Johnson Elementary to support student instruction under the supervision of the classroom teacher. This 32.5-hour/week position is aimed at complementing and reinforcing learning in regular and special education settings.

Starting ASAP for the 2026-2027 school year, the role requires strong communication, reliability, and the ability to work with diverse staff.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or related experience.
• Good communication skills, both oral and written.
• Experience with elementary age children or at-risk students.
• Ability to establish relationships with staff, students and parents.
• Ability to follow directions from program coordinator and classroom teacher.
• Demonstrates initiative and enthusiasm.
• Keep accurate records of activities as required.

Responsibilities

• Complement, supplement and reinforce students' instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms.
• Work under the direction of the classroom teachers with identified children as required by the program curriculum.
• Participate in regularly scheduled in-service sessions, both at the local and county level.
• Attend staff meetings when requested.
• Attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedures or assistance with regular hygiene.
• Keep accurate records on activities with students as required by the program guidelines.
• Perform any other duties as required by the Principal or classroom teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Good communication skills, both oral and written
• Previous experience working with elementary age children and/or students who are academically at risk
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various staff members, principals, student, teachers and office personnel
• Ability to work well under direction of program coordinator and classroom teacher
• Show evidence of initiative and enthusiasm
• Ability to keep accurate records on activities with students as required by program guidelines.
• May be required to take a skills test

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma and/or related experience.

LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS:Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
