Job summary

Smalley Steel Ring Company is hiring a Shipping Clerk for the Lake Zurich, IL facility. The role focuses on inspecting, packing, and shipping products, with responsibilities across data entry and cross-department collaboration to ensure timely fulfillment.

The position supports a second shift, with a focus on accurate paperwork, prompt communication, and adherence to quality standards to satisfy customers and maintain efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Prepare products for shipping using packaging methods (roll-packing, bagging).
• Understand internal packing/shipping terminology and complete required paperwork.
• Pass required exam of basic math and English.
• Ability to prioritize and distribute work accordingly.
• Communication skills are required (email and in-person).

Responsibilities

• Inspect and package products per blueprints and customer specs.
• Operate scales/equipment for the product.
• Process shipments (UPS/FedEx), complete BOLs, load trucks as needed.
• Identify and report nonconforming products to Supervisor.
• Enter jobs into the computer database and respond to emails at the Data Desk.
• Read and follow customer notes and participate in cross-departmental work.
• Uphold defined quality standards to maximize customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Inspects and packages products in compliance with blueprints/part/customer specifications.
• Operates necessary scales/equipment related to the assigned product.
• Works as a Shipping Clerk as needed: processing parcels through UPS/FedEx, completing BOL's, loading trucks, etc.
• Identifies and reports all products that fail to meet appropriate specifications/rejected products to Supervisor.
• Works at the Data Desk as needed: entering jobs into the computer database, sending/replying to emails, identifying, and prioritizing urgent orders, communicating with team, etc.
• Reads, understands, and follows customer specific notes.
• Participates in cross-departmental work production based on business needs.
• Learns and upholds defined quality standards to ensure maximum customer satisfaction and optimize work efficiency

Qualifications

A reasonable estimate of the hourly rate for this role is $19.80 - $22.00 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. This role is bonus/and or incentive eligible.
