Job summary

Smalley is seeking a manufacturing associate to learn and operate wire forming machinery and related tooling in an on-site Illinois facility. The role emphasizes setup, inspection, and adherence to quality standards in a high-speed production environment.

Candidates should have mechanical experience, familiarity with micrometers/calipers, and the ability to troubleshoot basic machine issues while supporting cross-functional teams and daily production targets.

Qualifications

• Mechanical experience including operation of high speed automatic and semi-automatic equipment.
• Set up and adjustment of metal forming processes (stamping, forming, shearing).
• Experience troubleshooting production equipment and ability to identify machine problems.
• Experience measuring parts with precision instruments including micrometers and digital calipers.
• Pass required exam of math and English.

Responsibilities

• Learns to independently set up 25% and operate 100% of the machine groups in the respective area.
• Opens and closes each job.
• Loads wire efficiently and safely using appropriate tools and removes empty spools.
• Measures and inspects the wire quality throughout each step of the set up process.
• Operates all testing equipment including micrometers and calipers.
• Retrieves all gauges, tooling, racks, and materials needed.
• Demonstrates ability to perform heat sampling.
• Removes and installs machine tooling.
• Sets up machines, adjusts tooling, and sets parameters for each job.
• Assists leads and supervisors with teaching and training machine operators.
• Learns to complete basic troubleshooting and adjustments to machines.
• Communicates regularly with machine operators regarding any machine issues.
• Demonstrates the ability to perform wire rejection procedures.
• Participates in cross departmental work production based on business needs.
• Learns and upholds defined quality standards to ensure maximum customer satisfaction and optimize work efficiency.
• Strives to achieve team and individual specified production targets.
