Responsibilities

• Conduct production-floor safety audits and review equipment before use.
• Investigate injuries and incidents, identify root causes, coordinate corrective actions.
• Respond to employee concerns and partner with operations, maintenance, and engineering on injury reduction plans.
• Develop and deliver training on powered equipment, lockout/tagout, confined space, fire prevention, HazCom, emergency response, aerial lifts, and PPE.
• Review OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and other standards; update safety procedures, training records, and Safety Data Sheets.
• Support safety campaigns, industrial hygiene sampling, equipment reviews, and ISO 45001 safety management system.

A major manufacturing employer near Lafayette is seeking a Safety Specialist for its second shift.

About the Role

Safety Specialist - 2nd Shift On-Site / Greater Lafayette, IN 3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. Comp: DOE up to 85k plus Bonus Position Overview You will work directly with production associates, supervisors, maintenance, and engineering to identify risks, respond to concerns, investigate incidents, and deliver practical safety training. This is a hands-on role with regular time on the production floor and a clear opportunity to improve how people work safely.

Responsibilities

• Conduct production-floor safety audits and review new or modified equipment before it enters service.
• Investigate injuries and powered material handling incidents, identify root causes, and coordinate corrective actions.
• Respond to employee concerns and partner with operations, maintenance, and engineering on injury reduction plans.
• Develop and deliver training on topics such as powered equipment, cranes, lockout/tagout, confined space, fire prevention, HazCom, emergency response, aerial lifts, and PPE.
• Review OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and other applicable standards; update safety procedures, training records, and Safety Data Sheets.
• Support safety campaigns, industrial hygiene sampling, equipment and packaging reviews, and an ISO 45001 safety management system.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field a plus.

Required Skills

• Experience conducting safety audits, incident investigations, training, and corrective-action follow-up in a manufacturing setting.
• Ability to interpret OSHA and other applicable safety requirements and collaborate across production, maintenance, and engineering.
• Strong communication and organization skills, with the ability to listen to employee concerns and turn findings into action.

Preferred Skills

• 3-7 years of relevant experience and an ASP, CSP, or similar credential are preferred.
