Job summary

Chicago Tube and Iron Company (CTI) in Romeoville, IL is seeking a 2nd Shift Quality Technician to support production quality from planning through delivery. You will perform inspections, develop QA documentation, and work with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams to meet customer requirements.

The role emphasizes hands-on inspection, GD&T interpretation, PPAPs, PFMEAs, and process improvement using CMMs and precision tooling.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field is required.
• 2+ years of related quality or manufacturing experience.
• Strong working knowledge of PPAP and new-part implementation processes.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints, including GD&T.
• Experience using precision measuring equipment such as calipers and portable CMM.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop quality documentation and inspection processes for value-added and fabricated parts.
• Create process inspection sheets and balloon drawings for first-article and in-process inspections.
• Partner with the New Products Manager to support PPAPs, PFMEAs, process flows, and control plans.
• Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections to verify products meet specifications.
• Perform inspections using a portable CMM, including developing CMM programs when needed.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and GD&T.
• Inspect outsourced parts and document/report nonconforming material.
• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
• Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions across manufacturing processes.
• Analyze process and quality data using statistical tools to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Assist with rework jobs and disposition of nonconforming products.
• Review, develop, and revise quality and testing procedures.
• Verify production processes and finished parts meet established quality standards.
• Maintain, calibrate, and clean inspection and testing equipment.
• Help reinforce CTI’s safety and quality standards throughout the operation.
