Job summary

Chicago Tube and Iron Company in Romeoville, IL is seeking a 1st Shift Quality Technician to ensure products meet CTI's high quality standards. This Hands-on role focuses on inspection, GD&T, PPAPs, and process improvement.

You will develop inspection plans, read blueprints, operate portable CMM and calipers, and participate in root-cause analysis with Production and Engineering teams for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, or related technical field.
• 2+ years of relevant quality or manufacturing experience.
• Strong knowledge of PPAP and new-part implementation processes.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints, including GD&T.
• Experience using precision measuring equipment, such as calipers and portable CMM.
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with Production, Engineering, and Quality teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop quality documentation and inspection processes for value-added and fabricated parts.
• Create process inspection sheets and balloon drawings for first-article and in-process inspections.
• Partner with the New Products Manager to support PPAPs, PFMEAs, process flows, and control plans.
• Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections to verify products meet specifications.
• Perform inspections using a portable CMM, including developing CMM programs when needed.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and GD&T.
• Inspect outsourced parts and document/report nonconforming material.
• Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
• Support implementation of corrective and preventive actions across manufacturing processes.
• Analyze process and quality data using statistical tools to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Assist with rework jobs and disposition of nonconforming products.
• Review, develop, and revise quality and testing procedures.
• Verify production processes and finished parts meet established quality standards.
• Maintain, calibrate, and clean inspection and testing equipment.
• Help reinforce CTI’s safety and quality standards throughout the operation.
