Job summary

General Motors Company in Bay City, MI is seeking a Shift Leader-Production for the 2nd shift to supervise a medium/large team within the Global Manufacturing Systems framework. The role emphasizes safety, quality, cost, and timely delivery while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

You will apply lean manufacturing principles, coach staff, and coordinate with the union to ensure compliance with GM and UAW agreements, maintaining strong teamwork and problem-solving under pressure.

Qualifications

• 5 yrs of experience as a front line supervisor.
• Bachelor's Degree or a minimum of 5 yrs equivalent experience.
• Understanding of basic mechanical concepts.
• Knowledge of quality control procedures, manufacturing processes and management systems as they relate to production operations.
• Highly developed oral and written communications skill.
• High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with the plant's business partners, union workforce, and supply base.
• High Level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a medium/large group of employees across multiple departments.
• Lead Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes across multiple departments and support launch and pilot activities in assigned areas.
• Meet or exceed production cost schedule and maintain quality requirements.
• Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping.
• Coach, teach, counsel and mentor Group Leaders in these responsibilities.
• Lead start of shift and end of shift meetings and provide carryover to the next shift.
• Lead initiatives on their shift.
• Drive process discipline to achieve goals.
• Assist in obtaining resources to effectively perform operations.
