Job summary

Florida State University’s Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, FL seeks 2nd Shift Museum Attendants for a part-time OPS position. Duties include assisting guests, patrolling grounds and buildings, and ensuring safety of staff and visitors.

Shift is 2:00 PM–10:30 PM, 28 hours per week, with weekends/holidays possible. Requires high school diploma and valid Florida driver’s license; prior customer service or museum experience preferred; criminal history background check may be required.

Qualifications

  • Ability to stand and walk long periods, ascend/descend stairs, and work in all weather.

Responsibilities

  • Assist guests with customer service at museum posts and events.
  • Patrol museum buildings and grounds to ensure safety and security.
  • Monitor for hazards and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Write reports and submit work orders; escort staff and guests as assigned.

Department

The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art is located in Sarasota, Florida, and is a department of Florida State University.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assisting guests while ensuring a high level of customer service.
  • Working a variety of assigned posts and events on the museum grounds and buildings, including at the Center for Performing Arts.
  • Patrolling buildings and 66-acre grounds on foot and by golf cart.
  • Preserving the safety of staff, visitors, and the protection of the collection, buildings, and grounds.
  • Monitoring for suspicious activity, potential hazards, or safety issues.

As needed:

  • Occasionally utilizes computers to write reports, send correspondence, and submit work orders.
  • Handles emergencies such as medical situations, fire alarms, or emergency evacuations.
  • Escorting staff and guests as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Florida driver’s license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
  • Ability to:
    • Stand and walk for long periods
    • Ascend/descend stairs
    • Work in all types of weather conditions

Experience with:

  • Customer service

Ability to:

  • Respond calmly to urgent/emergency situations

Anticipated Salary Range

$15.96 per hour (28 hours a week)

  • Employees are required to wear the standard-issue uniform while at work.
Working Hours
  • Applicants must be available for the working hours as listed below.
