Job summary

Ferrara Candy Company is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to operate on-site in Itasca, Illinois (2nd shift, 10:30pm–7:00am). The role includes repairing and maintaining plant equipment, reading blueprints, and performing preventive maintenance to keep production running smoothly.

The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds, good communication, and a flexible schedule with potential overtime and weekend work. Ferrara offers a competitive hourly rate with a small shift differential.

Qualifications

• Basic mathematical skills.
• Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods; lift up to 50 pounds.
• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; follow detailed instructions.
• Read and interpret safety rules, operating manuals and procedures.
• Promote teamwork with flexibility to perform tasks as needed.
• Completed Maintenance Certification.

Responsibilities

• Repair mechanical and electrical systems on packaging equipment.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and project work.
• Read blueprints, diagnose problems and order parts.
• Install new equipment and change parts to run different products.
• Transfer knowledge during shift changes and inform supervision of significant problems.
• Work overtime and weekends as required.
