Job summary

The 2nd Shift Lead Maintenance Technician at Mestek Machinery is a working lead responsible for overseeing and supporting staff during the 2nd shift. This role ensures safe, efficient production through hands-on troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, and interpretation of blueprints and BOMs.

Training begins on 1st shift and moves to 2nd shift after several weeks. Education includes an Industrial Technician Certificate or equivalent, with 4–6 years of maintenance experience.

Qualifications

  • Industrial Technician Certificate or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
  • Minimum 4–6 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and BOMs.
  • Experience in union manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead a team or serve as a subject-matter expert on a production shift.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with QC, engineering and production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a 2nd shift maintenance team with daily direction and task prioritization.
  • Ensure smooth workflow and adjust assignments to meet production and quality goals.
  • Provide shift-change communication to 1st shift leadership and maintenance teams.
  • Support new or less experienced employees by coaching processes and troubleshooting.
  • Work with the safety committee to ensure environmental, health and safety compliance.
  • Identify and troubleshoot quality issues and recommend solutions.
  • Collaborate with Quality Technician to support in-process inspections and BOM verification.
  • Support root-cause analysis related to quality or equipment problems.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and safety.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production environment.
  • Communicate deviations, rework needs, or quality concerns to the Assembly Supervisor and QC.
  • Perform and assume other duties and responsibilities as required.

ESSENTIALDUTIES

JOBDESCRIPTION

The 2nd Shift Lead Maintenance Technician is a working lead responsible for overseeing and supporting staff during the 2nd shift. This position ensures safe and efficient production by providing hands-on troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, interpretation of blueprints and bills of materials (BOMs), support with sub-assembly, and machine build tasks.

This role partners closely with the 1st shift Assembly Supervisor, Quality Control, and Engineering to ensure consistent workflow, proper equipment performance, and adherence to quality standards. The Lead Technician sets expectations for productivity and quality and serves as the technical resource for the 2nd shift.

This is a temp-to-hire opportunity. Training will begin on 1st shift for several weeks before transitioning to 2nd shift.

EDUCATIONANDEXPERIENCE
  • Industrial Technician Certificate or equivalent required; Associate of applied science or comparable degree preferred.
  • Minimum 4–6 years of maintenance technician experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
