Job summary

Moog is seeking a 2nd Shift Fiber Optic Solder Technician to join our Highland Heights operations. The role focuses on precise hand soldering, microscope-based inspection, and adherence to quality standards on PCBs and assemblies.

You will read blueprints, operate in an ESD environment, and collaborate with teammates to meet production targets. IPC certifications are preferred; strong attention to detail is essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of hand soldering experience in a manufacturing or electronics environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year of microscope inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from assembly drawings, schematics and blueprints.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish colors for component identification and inspection.
  • Must pass pre-employment screenings including color vision assessment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and tablet devices (e.g., iPad).
  • IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610 certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Read and follow work instructions, drawings, blueprints, processes, and procedures to perform hand soldering to quality standards.
  • Use microscopes and inspection equipment to solder, assemble, rework, and repair wires, cables, and small electronic components on PCBs and assemblies.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure accuracy and compliance; report defects or issues promptly.
  • Work in an Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) controlled environment and maintain a safe area.
  • Complete required training and certifications to maintain proficiency and support operations.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve production goals and maintain attendance and schedules.

Job Overview

Job Title: 2nd Shift Fiber Optic Solder Technician

Reporting To: Production Supervisor

Work Schedule: Onsite – 2nd Shift (3:30pm–12:00am Monday to Friday) in Highland Heights, Ohio

Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED preferred. Otherwise, demonstrated ability to understand and apply all verbal, written and computer work instructions or training in English, and demonstrated ability to perform simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hand soldering experience in a manufacturing or electronics production environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year of microscope inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Quality conscious, mechanical aptitude, and good dexterity.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to accurately identify and distinguish colors as required for component identification, wiring, and quality inspection.
  • Must be able to successfully pass applicable pre-employment screenings, including a color vision assessment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from assembly drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and technology, including Microsoft Office applications and tablet-based devices (e.g., iPad).
  • Preferred Qualifications: IPC J-STD-001 certification preferred, IPC-A-610 certification preferred.
Responsibilities

  • Use microscopes and other inspection equipment to solder, assemble, rework, and repair wires, cables, and small electronic components on printed circuit boards (PCBs) and assemblies.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications; promptly report defects, discrepancies, or equipment issues.
  • Safely handle materials and perform work within an Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) controlled environment.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area; follow all safety practices and report unsafe conditions.
  • Complete required training, certifications, and skill development activities to maintain job proficiency and support operational requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members by sharing knowledge and supporting production goals.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and adhere to established schedules, policies, procedures, and work standards.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support business and operational needs.
  • Meet quality, productivity, and customer requirements while maintaining low levels of nonconforming product.
  • Complete work accurately, efficiently, and within established production targets and timeframes.
  • Consistently achieve operational goals and comply with defined processes and specifications.
  • Comply with all safety, quality, regulatory, and company requirements, including AS9100, ATEX, and ISO standards.
  • Support cross-functional communication and teamwork to achieve company objectives.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work schedules, including overtime or extended hours as business needs require.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

10% Shift Differential Salary Range Transparency: Cleveland, OH $21.00–$24.00 Hourly Salary Range
