Job summary

UVA Community Health is seeking a Facility Maintenance Tech II/III to perform a range of building trades across UVA Health facilities. The role emphasizes independent work, prioritization, and safe operations.

The position offers a 2nd shift (2pm-10:30pm) with on-call duties, a sign-on bonus, and opportunities to support critical hospital environments through skilled maintenance and timely repairs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; technical training in specific building trades preferred.
• 4 years of experience in plant operations and general maintenance in a healthcare facility or similar environment preferred.
• Valid driver's license in good standing with evidence of insurance required.
• Ability to complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing.
• Knowledge of building trades including drywall finishing, painting, flooring, carpentry; experience in two additional trades (masonry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC).
• Must interpret plans, drawings, and construction documentation.

Responsibilities

• Maintains, repairs, and constructs items as noted on maintenance requests; emphasis on building surfaces.
• Manages stock of building materials for facilities finishes.
• Assists Facilities Management staff as directed by Director, Facilities Management.
• Follows safety and infection control policies of Facilities Management.
• Provides fire and security services during day shift; participates in scheduled on-call maintenance.
