Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a diesel mechanic in Graham, NC to diagnose and repair heavy‑duty diesel trucks and related equipment. You will maintain fleets including CNG, gas, and electric vehicles, plan repairs with the M5 planner, and ensure parts are procured for effective maintenance.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of diesel mechanic experience. Safety compliance and ability to use diagnostic software are essential, with overtime after 40 hours.

Responsibilities

• Diagnostics & repair of heavy-duty diesel trucks, hydraulics, and waste/recycling equipment.
• Fleet maintenance on heavy diesel, CNG, gas, and electric vehicles.
• Plan and schedule repairs using the M5 planner; ensure parts availability.
• Complete daily reports, work orders, parts orders, and other admin tasks.
• Ensure work is performed safely and in compliance with laws and company policies.
• Assist in reviewing mechanical write-ups and training new team members.
• Maintain personal hand and power tools and keep work area organized.

Job description

Starting Pay: $27-$35/hr (Top Pay Will Increase Based on EXP/Qualifications)

Starting Shift: 2pm-12am M-F. Overtime after 40hrs worked.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnostics & Repair: Diagnose and repair operational difficulties with heavy-duty diesel trucks, hydraulics, and specialized waste/recycling equipment.

• Fleet Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and complex repairs on heavy diesel, CNG, gas, and electrically operated vehicles.

• Planning & Scheduling: Plan and schedule repairs using the M5 planner system, ensuring all necessary parts are procured for a successful maintenance plan.

• Administrative Duties: Accurately complete daily reports, work orders, parts orders, and other required administrative tasks.

• Safety & Compliance: Ensure all work is performed in safe conditions and in strict compliance with federal, state/provincial, local laws, and company safety policies.

• Collaboration & Training: Assist in reviewing mechanical write-ups on equipment, coordinate repair schedules, and aid in the training and orientation of new team members.

• Tool Maintenance: Possess, provide, and maintain the personal hand and power tools necessary to perform heavy equipment maintenance, while keeping a clean and organized work area.

Job Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); a technical diploma or degree in diesel mechanics is highly desired.

• Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience working as a diesel mechanic.

• Technical Skills: Computer literacy is required, with the ability to be trained on specialized software systems (experience with diagnostic software is a major plus).

• Safety Screenings: Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

• Physical Effort: Frequently required to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift/push/pull up to 100 pounds. Continuous concentrated mental and visual attention is necessary.

• Environment: Frequently exposed to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, vibration, hot/cold weather conditions, and toxic or caustic chemicals/fumes. Occasionally required to work in high, precarious places.
