Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Keep building and premises neat and clean at all times
  • Shovels, plows and sands walks, driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriate
  • Cleans classrooms daily and dusts as needed
  • Cleans corridors daily and as needed throughout the day
  • Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilets and floors daily, and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily
  • Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently as necessary
  • Perform yard keeping chores as necessary such as grass cutting, tree trimming to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition
  • Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation
  • Report immediately to the building administrator and facility supervisor when there is damage to any school property
  • Remain on the school premises during school hours and during non school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his/her attendance is required by the building administrator or facilities supervisor
  • Responsible for closing the building each school day and determining before leaving that all doors and windows are secured, all lights off and the alarm is turned on
  • Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Building administrator or Facilities Supervisor
  • Complies with all local, state and federal laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste
  • Does other related work as required by the Head Custodian, Building administrator and Facilities Supervisor

Reports To: Facilities Supervisor and Building administrator

General Description: To provide students, staff and visitors with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to bend, sit, move about, hear and speak. May be required to work in restricted spaces to include crawling and/or climbing stairs, ladders and dealing with heights. Required to stand, be on feet and move around for a full work shift.
  • Ability to work using ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts and district vehicles. Ability to spend most of the work day standing, lifting and walking. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment. Required to properly use safety equipment to prevent injury to self or others.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year as determined by the union contract

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support service personnel
