Job summary

Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, AZ is seeking a full-time 2nd Assistant Superintendent to support daily course maintenance, irrigation, spraying, and quality turf care under Troon management.

You will participate in safety, licensing, staff supervision, and training, while ensuring compliance with regulations and company policies. Bachelor’s or AA in agronomy/related field and 3–4 years of related experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, horticulture, plant science, or soil science and 3–4 years of related experience or training.
• Degree preferred in agronomy, horticulture, plant science, or soil science.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine safety inspections on all spraying and fertilizer equipment.
• Reads, understands, and keeps current MSDS.
• Maintains chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with regulations.
• Ensures the safety and direction of chemical and fertilizer handlers.
• Maintains a log of applications and related reports.
• Performs hand spraying and maintains proper mixing amounts and application techniques.
• Keeps up-to-date knowledge of chemicals and fertilizers being applied.
• Ensures proper calibration of spraying and fertilizing equipment.
• Supervises and assists maintenance staff in daily duties.
• Addresses environmental concerns and ensures compliance with city, state, and federal regulations.
• Assists with interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluates performance.

We are seeking a driven individual who is eager to learn, contribute, and grow within a fast-paced hospitality-focused property organization. Key Responsibilities:

• Performs routine safety inspections on all spraying and fertilizer equipment.
• Reads, understands, and keeps current material safety data sheets (MSDS).
• Maintains chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with governmental regulations.
• Ensures the safety and direction of chemical and fertilizer handlers and helpers.
• Maintains a log of applications and files related reports.
• Performs hand spraying and maintains proper mixing amounts and application techniques.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of chemicals and fertilizers being applied.
• Ensures proper calibration of all spraying and fertilizing equipment.
• Supervises and assists maintenance staff in daily duties.
• Ensures all company policies and procedures are followed, including compliance with government regulations.
• Ensures associates obtain proper licenses needed to perform job tasks safely and within city, state, and federal regulations.
• Directly addresses all real or perceived environmental concerns.
• Assists with interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding, and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Manages department members who may include, but are not limited to: Environmental Technician.
• Ensures that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate. Develops ongoing training programs.
• Monitors business volume forecast and plans accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs, and other expenses.
• Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree (AA), or equivalent from a four- or two-year college or technical school; three to four years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience (degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, plant science, or soil science).

Working Conditions:

• Regularly works in wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and near moving mechanical parts.
• Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.
• Regularly wears safety equipment that covers the entire body and may trap body heat and moisture.

Valid Driver's License
