Job summary

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) in Sikeston, MO invites applications for a materials testing technician internship. You will sample and test construction materials, maintain records, and support quality control at our facilities.

The entry salary is posted above, with year-two rate of $23.30 per hour and year-three rate of $24.92 per hour. This position requires full-time enrollment in a relevant bachelor’s program and ABET accreditation for engineering tracks.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12 credit hours); ABET-accredited for engineering candidates.
• 30 credit hours completed toward current degree; transcripts to apply.
• Maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Responsibilities

• Samples and tests construction materials to determine conformity and approves/rejects material for intended use.
• Samples and test fine and coarse aggregate production for quality and gradation specification compliance at quarries.
• Prepares samples for bituminous trial mixes; coordinates with contractor on trial mix information.
• May perform duties of inspector in charge at plants producing bituminous mixtures to determine conformity and approvals.
• May perform inspections of prestressed or precast concrete and collect samples for federal aid projects.
• Maintain records of test results, product records, and reports for each project or maintenance use.
• Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12 credit hours); for engineering candidates, program must be ABET-accredited.
• 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
• Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
