Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academicsubject area assigned to help them fulfil their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical,and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfullyin society.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; for Pre K, major in ECE or meet otherqualifications outlined in Texas Education Code §29.167
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and workexperience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI), ifapplicable
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • [Physical Education Teachers: Current automated external defibrillator (AED) andcardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate]
  • ESL Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned

Experience:

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  1. 1. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculumprogram and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflectaccommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  2. 2 . Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment,and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assignedand present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency,board policies, and administrative regulations.
  3. 3. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  4. 4 . Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for specialeducation students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  5. 5. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methodsaccording to district requirements.
  6. 6. Plan, assign, and supervise work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and overseecompletion.
  7. 7. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  8. 8. Conduct ongoing assessment and feedback related to student achievement through formal andinformal methods.
  9. 9. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activitiesapproved by the campus principal.
  10. 10. Be a positive role model for students and support the goals of the campus and school district.
  11. 11. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical,social, and emotional development of students.
  12. 12. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and studenthandbook.
  13. 13. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, andfacilities.
  14. 14. Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  15. 15. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  16. 16. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents,students, colleagues, and community members
  17. 17. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  18. 18. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  19. 19. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  20. 20. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  21. 21. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) as applicable.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
  • Tools/Equipment Used:Standard office and safety equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
  • Posture:Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, occasional bending/stooping,pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion:Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching andfrequent walking
  • Lifting:Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
  • Environment:May work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional districtwide and statewide travel, workinside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise
  • Mental Demands:Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
