Job Goal

To demonstrate leadership, establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students, know the content they teach, facilitate learning for their students, and reflect on practice.

Roles and Responsibilities

Teachers demonstrate the value of lifelong learning and encourage their students to learn and grow by:

  • Building leadership among staff and with the administration to bring about consensus and shared ownership of the school's vision and purpose.
  • Making the content they teach engaging, relevant, and meaningful to students’ lives by aligning instruction with the common core, essential standards, and 21st-century content, including global awareness, financial, economic, business, entrepreneurial literacy, civic literacy, and health awareness.
  • Teaching core content revised to include skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and ICT literacy.
  • Facilitating instruction using a variety of methods appropriate for their students, integrating and utilizing technology.
  • Assessing learning and helping students work in teams to develop leadership qualities.
  • Working collaboratively with families and significant adults, adapting teaching for students with special needs, and embracing fairness in the school community.
  • Demonstrating ethical principles such as honesty, integrity, fair treatment, and respect for others.
  • Serving as a team player and role model, committing to continuous quality improvement, and supporting core values (caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer-driven, valuing fairness).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Must communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
  • Must have finger dexterity and the physical ability to kneel, sit, walk, stoop, reach, lift, push, pull, talk, see, hear, and perform repetitive motion.
